While researching for 'Context and Narrative', I found this book by Rick Rylance. I've reviewed several references to the philosophy of Roland Barthes throughout my studies but only really knew a little about him.
First published in 1994, Roland Barthes by Rick Rylance provides an account of Barthes's theories from 1950 until his final work on love and photography. It's a great read and gives us even more understanding of how his mind worked. It also has comparisons alongside other practitioners, such as Doris Lessing and Marshall McLuhan, to name a few.
Since then, it has been an indispensable reference guide for me, and I have returned on numerous occasions to refer to it.
